The health and safety of our students is our top priority at QSI International School of Yerevan. We strive to ensure a safe, orderly, and healthy environment for teaching and learning. The school has established and implemented effective procedural guidelines to ensure the health and safety of students, staff, and visitors to the school.

Social-Emotional Needs

QSI Yerevan is committed to teaching children habits and skills that help them to build character, manage emotional and social situations, and keep themselves safe. Currently, we have a full range of lessons on Child Protection that we teach children of all ages. We are also developing specific, age-appropriate lessons for Success Orientations and Social Emotional Development.

A guidance counselor is available on campus to provide support for students. Lessons are taught throughout the school on social and emotional topics as well as the Success Orientations, QSI’s character education program. Our trained guidance counselor provides counseling services and support for the student body and refer students to mental health practitioners and outside resources when there is a need.

Building Character and a Culture of Success

Success is so much more than getting A’s and B’s. We understand how important it is for students to develop the many good habits and skills that lead to being successful. QSI wants all students to grow in leadership, confidence, creativity, and the capacity to collaborate with others. We teach and help students to be trustworthy, responsible, concerned for others, kind and polite, successful group members, able to appreciate the environment around them, and be independent. We call these the Success Orientations.

Aesthetic Appreciation

Aesthetic Appreciation means students respect the spaces that they use in the school, such as their cubby/ locker, classroom, hallway, or cafeteria. It means that they take care of the environment inside and outside the school by picking up trash and cleaning up after themselves. It also means students respect how other people create their ideas, not just in art and music, but in every class.

Independent Endeavor

Independent Endeavor means teachers assign students work and students then do it by themselves. They pay attention to personal work and stay focused on the task at hand. Teachers can trust students to do the work independently and to the best of their ability. Students may pursue an interest beyond curricular expectations to further increase their understanding of the topic.

Emergency Care

The school nurse is available throughout the school day to provide emergency first aide to students. She communicates with parents when emergency first aid is administered to students and will refer accident victims to emergency facilities when injuries are more severe than should be handled at the school nurse's office.

Maintenance Care

The school nurse check elementary students periodically for infestations of lice, as well as reporting to the office outbreaks of childhood contagious diseases. She also keeps current records of student with medical problems such as allergies and communicates this information to teachers and administrators. She maintains first aid and other important medical supplies for use on campus, on school field trips, as well as for after-school athletics. The school nurse will periodically inspect the school facilities for hygienic concerns.

Student Health Records

The school nurse keeps an updated record of student health cards. She also keeps detailed records of students who have visited the nurse's office and what assistance has been provided. She maintains up-to-date lists of students who have special health concerns for distribution to teachers and administrators, identifying special student health problems such as allergies or other health concerns that is helpful information.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Guidelines

Regular Morning Drop-Off

Parents/Drivers may choose to park their car and escort the student(s) directly to the main door or they may go through the “drive through” lane. If a parent/driver goes through the drive through lane the car may only stop long enough to allow the student(s) to exit the vehicle. After students have safely left the vehicle, the car must immediately exit the campus to allow the traffic to continue to flow.

Students from 5 years old to 11 years old classes should go directly to the appropriate playground once they have been dropped off. Students do not drop off backpacks in their classroom or go into the school building prior to line-up at 8:15. We ask all parents and students to abide by this rule.

Students in the preschool and upper school go directly to their classrooms.

Rainy Day Morning Drop-Off

After arriving, all students will go directly to their classrooms.

Pick-Up

At 3:45 the school day ends. Students line up in the gym for Extra Curricular Activities and for pick-up. Parents will pick up their children at the back gate or at the front of the school.

Pick-Up from After School Activities

At 4:15, ECAs end. Parents are asked to be there on time. If students have not been picked up on time, a phone call to the parents will be made and the student will wait in the office.

Change in Pick-Up/Drop-Off

In case of change in regular routine the parent must call the office, or send a note with the child. If a friend or another parent is picking up your child, a direct phone call or note from the parent must be made to the office.

Visitors to Campus

QSIY is a closed campus, which means that students may not leave the campus without permission from the office. A signed note must be obtained by the student to leave the campus and only by permission of the parent will this note be given. A closed campus also means visitors and non-students must check through the school office before being allowed to visit the school. For safety reasons, we must know who is on the campus at all times.

Personal security guards or nannies are not permitted to remain in the building during the course of the day. Anyone wishing to visit a particular class should make their request to the school’s office at least one day in advance. We do invite parents to be involved with their child’s education but we must protect the safe, nurturing learning environment of the classroom and refrain from causing unexpected disturbances. Upon approval of the homeroom teacher and administration, visiting parents or students may attend QSI classes. Parent volunteers can be coordinated directly through the classroom teacher. It is understood that a visiting student will be an active member of the classes he/she is attending and will attend for one only.
