COVID-19 Information - QSI International School of Yerevan

Like most schools around the globe, COVID-19 has disrupted the day-to-day operations of QSI International School of Yerevan for the past twelve months. Throughout the period, the school has worked diligently to not let this terrible pandemic limit our students' learning or social-emotional development. Using the latest science and recommendations from international organizations, the school has worked hard to keep our students and community safe while maintaining our high standards for learning.

COVID-19 LEARNING MODELS

QSIY will continue to follow guidelines defined by the local authorities and other national and international health organizations. We will follow the Armenian government’s assessment of the risk level, but QSIY realizes that we will need to take numerous perspectives into consideration in order to respond effectively depending on the scenario. We also understand that within our large school community there are a wide range of perspectives concerning COVID-19, the appropriateness of school operation, practical precautionary methods, and realistic procedures to follow. Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for all students and staff each day.

On-Site Learning

All Students
When COVID-19 risk levels are deemed to be low, the school will return to our regular daily schedule with all students on campus five days a week. Under this model, COVID-19 health and safety best practices and guidelines will continue to be followed.

Blended Learning
QSI International School of Yerevan will work to accommodate students who are unable to return to campus due to health concerns.

Hybrid Learning

When COVID-19 risk levels are deemed to be moderate, the school will follow the Hybrid Learning Model.

Preschool and Elementary School
All students will be on campus full time, five days a week. Preschool classes are limited in size to accommodate social distancing and safe peer interaction. Elementary homeroom classes will be split into two different groups allowing for smaller class sizes and increased social distancing.

Middle & Secondary School
Students will attend classes every day but alternate between learning on campus (in person) and online (from home).

Distance Learning

When COVID-19 risk levels are deemed to be high, the school will follow the Distance Learning Model.

Preschool
Students meet online in short 15 - 30 minute blocks for Literacy and Mathematic activities. The remainder of the day is dedicated to Home Enrichment activities.

Elementary School
Students meet online in the morning for Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Cultural Studies and Science. The afternoon schedule includes Languages Other than English, Technology, Art, Music and Physical Education.

Middle & Secondary School
The schedule for Middle School and Secondary School students is a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning. The mornings will be dedicated synchronous online classes; the entire class meets to receive instruction, discuss material, and work through a variety of assignments or projects in their class. The afternoon will be flexible asynchronous time. Students can drop-in to office hours and work on assignments as needed. Teachers can organize one-on-one meetings or small group lessons.

COVID-19 - Health and Safety Procedures

Entering the School

Health and safety of our students and staff is our first concern. Students will line up, wearing masks, with 2 m of space between them to have their temperature taken with a no-touch thermometer before entering campus. Their hands will then be sanitized. Any students with a temperature higher than 37.0 Celsius or 98 Fahrenheit will be isolated and their parents will be contacted for pickup. Upon entering campus, students will go directly to their homeroom, keeping distance between themselves as they walk. Classroom doors will be open and students will go directly into their classrooms and to their assigned spots. Safety protocols must be followed, including wearing masks, sanitizing hands, limiting contact, and maintaining social distancing. No parents or visitors will be allowed on campus during school hours. Students will be dismissed while maintaining physical distancing. Students will be dismissed in a staggered timetable.

In the Classroom

In the classroom, students will be seated at least 2m apart. Carpets and non-essential materials have been removed from the classroom. Windows and doors will be kept open and fans will be used to circulate air. Air conditioners will not be used at this time. Elementary students will remain with their teachers in their cohorts throughout the days. Specialist teachers will travel to the students for most subjects. Lunch will be eaten in the classroom or outdoors. Hands will be washed before and after lunch. Students will not have access to a microwave to heat their lunch. Classes will be held outdoors as much as possible. Middle school and high school students have been broken into cohorts as well to ensure when they return to school, safety protocols can be maintained. Classroom surfaces will be cleaned several times throughout the day with disinfectant, as will all common areas of the school. Recess and breaks will be staggered around the campus, including the field, playground, and the courtyard at the front of the campus. At the end of the break, all students will sanitize their hands and change their masks.

Mask Wearing

First, hands must be washed thoroughly. Then take an appropriate size of mask by the ear loops. Do not touch the part of the mask that covers your face. Make sure the nose part is facing up. Gently place an earloop over each ear. Masks should be changed every 2-3 hours or if it gets wet or there is difficulty breathing. To remove the mask, do not touch the front of the mask and use the ear loops to remove.

Hand Washing

We encourage all students to follow hand hygiene. The best thing is to use soap and warm water to wash their hands several times a day at school. We teach students to wash their hands properly. Students wet hands and then use liquid soap. Students tub their hands together for at least 20 seconds. They rub their hands together including all fingers, the palm, and the back of the hand. Younger students are encouraged to sing the abc song to ensure hands are fully cleansed. Then hands are rinsed thoroughly under warm water. Students dry their hands with a paper towel.
